HIKING
The slogan "Osttirol - dein Bergtirol" did not just come out of the blue. About 2,900 km of hiking trails confirm the importance of walking in this region. The 241 'three-thousanders', the peaks above 3,000 m, make this region a paradise for mountaineers. Osttirol impresses with Austria's highest mountains, including the Großglockner and Großvenediger in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Hikers enjoy the hiking trails, some of which are elevated. The experienced hikers have the opportunity to take on the challenge with the many altimeters, the Adelaarsweg should definitely be on the list. The many mountain huts are ideally suited for a picnic during a hike or for multi-day hut trips. we have 170 hiking routes from beginners to advanced.
MOUNTAINBIKE
For a long time, Osttirol was unknown territory for most mountain bikers, only a small group knew this undiscovered area. Osttirol distinguishes itself as a region with the Hohe Tauern National Park with the Großglockner in the north and the Lienz Dolomites in the south with real challenges for trail bikers and downhillers with the "Lakata-Trail" and the Adventure Park Osttirol. The 600 kilometers of mountain bike and cycling routes contain a network that takes you to the most beautiful areas of the Osttiroler high mountains.
ADVENTURE MOUNTAIN OSTTIRODLER & SCHLOSSBERG LIENZ
Schlossberg in Lienz is the most adventurous mountain in Osttirol. The Schlossbergbahn takes you comfortably to the Moosalm, where an exciting and varied offer awaits you in the middle of nature. Especially for families, the Schlossberg is an extensive attraction with a cozy restaurant, a playground, a petting zoo and the largest climbing park in Osttirol. In addition, you will also find one of the longest and most spectacular toboggan runs. With a maximum speed of 40 km per hour you toboggan over a route of more than 2.7 kilometers into the valley. Brave the toboggan run with an 8 meter high corkscrew, curves and waves. An adrenaline rush guaranteed!
JAGDHAUSALMEN
The Jagdhausalmen are the oldest Alps in Austria, they are located in the Arvental in Osttirol. In the beautiful natural landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park, there is a chapel and 15 stone houses at an altitude of 2,009 meters. This settlement was built in the 13th century and inhabited all year round. Now they are monumental buildings. Because survival without grain supply was impossible at this altitude, the area was used only for agriculture about 200 years later. Just behind a moraine, a small round lake is hidden, this lake is called 'das Pfauenauge' (peacock's eye).
Motorcycling in East Tyrol
There is still so much to discover for motorcyclists in the Alps. In Osttirol you can hardly sit more centrally as a motorcycle enthusiast. A hidden queen of the roads lies between the Großglockner and the Dolomites. The most southwestern corner of Austria has a lot to offer. Beautiful panoramic roads and fast connections to the hotspots from the biker scene in the Hohe Tauern to the wild passes in the Dolomites. Don't miss the Großglockner High Alpine Road with its 36 hairpin bends, enjoy the entire region and visit three countries or go for the challenge in the big Dolomites round.
